Atalaya Almansa Laya 2013
Availability: In Stock
How can they do this for $7? The 2013 Laya, from Spain's Almansa region, due west of Valencia, is a lusty blend of 70% Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet) and 30% Monastrell, that ages for 4 months in French oak barrels. It is a lively yet deep, brooding, extract-packed red that delivers an inky melange of dark berry flavors. Seriously fun...

Badia di Morrona Chianti I Sodi del Paretaio 2012
Availability: Low Availability
Always a consistently fine player in the value Chianti game, Badia di Morrona delivers yet again with this juicy engaging bottle of Sangiovese. The mind behind this wine, the great Tuscan enologist Alberto Antonini, always manages to pack I Sodi with tangy, dark cherry fruit and spices, notes of cedar, and a 'drink-me' attitude, all a very fair price. 85% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet and Merlot, aged solely in concrete vat and steel tank.

Availability: Low Availability
Clean, fresh and incredibly pure, the 2013 Charles Smith Riesling Kung Fu Girl is shockingly good given the price (and the volume, as they produce a massive amount of this cuvee). Lychee, citrus, mint and classic minerality all show here, and it’s medium-bodied, beautifully balanced and finishes cleanly, with perfectly integrated acidity ...read more

Domaine Sorin Cotes De Provence Rose Terra Amata 2013
Availability: Sold Out
2013 is a rough vintage for Provençal Rosé, but this is one of those diamonds in that rough. Sorin was specializing in Rosé before it was trendy and knows how to work with any harvest thrown at them. This is a terrific effort in 2013, textbook, dripping with watermelon and strawberry flavors, with a fantastic spine of acid that is missing in many efforts from this vintage. And that price? You can't beat it!

Masciarelli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2012
Availability: In Stock
There's a lot of $10 (and under) Montepulciano on the market nowadays but the still don't match up to Masciarelli. These guys don't use winemaking tricks, no oak chips, no cheesy oak staves, they rely solely on the quality of the grapes, which are truly splendid. Here we have sweet tobacco notes intertwined with cocoa and plush dark berry fruit flavors, highlighted by plentiful but ripe tannins. It is a true Italian table red (vino da tavola) in the finest way. A classic!

Pasquet Bordeaux 2012
Availability: Sold Out
The ultimate banquet wine. Seriously. None other than the great multi-three-star Michelin chef Alain Ducasse uses this wine for his seriously upscale banquet and party business in Monaco! No kidding. It is a classic Bordeaux blend of 45% Cabernet, 45% Merlot with the balance being Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. A quaffable, classically Bodeaux red with surprising presence on the palate but a smooth, polished feel on the palate, thanks to 1/3 of the wine aging in new oak barrels. A lot of wine for the money...

San Felice Rosso Contrada di San Felice 2011
Availability: In Stock
This award-winning Chianti Classico house also manages to craft a vivacious, easy-going baby Super-Tuscan that is equally at home with a steak, chicken under a brick, or a plate of spaghetti. The blend here is 50% Merlot, 40% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, all from their vineyards in Chianti Classico and the neighboring Siena hillsides. Last year's was a 90 point James Suckling selection and this one, at least to us, is a fine step up.
