Capcanes Mas Donis Barrica Old Vines 2010
WA
92
Availability: In Stock
92 Points!  Produced from 85% Garnacha (70-year-old vines) and 15% Syrah (30-year-old vines) aged nine months in new and older American and French oak, it is another under-the-radar wine that dramatically over-delivers. A custom cuvee made for Eric Solomon, it exhibits notes of rose petals, raspberry jam, crushed rocks, spring flowers and ...read more

Domaine Sorin Cotes De Provence Rose Terra Amata 2013
Availability: Sold Out
2013 is a rough vintage for Provençal Rosé, but this is one of those diamonds in that rough. Sorin was specializing in Rosé before it was trendy and knows how to work with any harvest thrown at them. This is a terrific effort in 2013, textbook, dripping with watermelon and strawberry flavors, with a fantastic spine of acid that is missing in many efforts from this vintage. And that price? You can't beat it!

Lezaun Tinto Navarra 2012
Availability: In Stock
This blend of 55% Tempranillo, 25% old vine Garnacha and 20% Merlot, all grown biodynamically, seriously impressed for the price charged. Navarra, in the north of Spain, makes wines that are fresher, brighter and frankly a bit easier to drink than their Spanish counterparts in warmer climes to the south. Lezaun is chock full of vibrant red cherry, spice and woodsy (but not in an 'oaky' way) notes, with a long, fresh finish. I suppose you could call this a bistro quaffer if there were any bistros in Spain. Instead, let's just call it real good...

Everybody needs a great quaffing Riesling, and Ernie Loosen flat-out delivers.  From top Mosel vineyards and a juicy, vibrant vintage, this one encapulates what lime and apple-inflected, zippy, fruit-forward, Asian cuisine-accompanying Riesling is all about...

Mason Cellars Pinot Grigio Three Pears 2012
Availability: In Stock
It finally happened. I told myself I'd never buy a domestic 'Pinot Grigio' but here it is. I guess I should have known it would come from Randy Mason, a guy who's specialized in white wine over the last two decades and one of the pre-eminenet producers of Sauvignon Blanc in the state. This tastes more like a Pinot Gris, in the Alsatian sense, than something Italian, but that's a good thing. The fruit comes from the Sacramento Delta (also a fine place for Chenin Blanc) and transmits pear, apple and spiced citrus flavors, with just a touch of fruitiness on the  ...read more

Sant'Antonio Corvina Scaia Veneto 2012
Availability: In Stock
The 2011 version of this Corvina-based wine from Amarone country had Wine Advocate's Monica Larner remarking, "This exceptional value wine may well be the best deal in Italian wine today." This 2012, tasting like a Beaujolais/Valpolicella mash-up, may in fact be better than that wine. It's here, it's now, it's $9.88, and they don't make a ton of it...

Sean Minor Pinot Noir Central Coast 2012
Availability: Sold Out
In a few short years (since 2005 to be exact) Sean Minor has vaulted imselfto the top of the value wine food chain in California. His wines are honest, clean, full of fruit and, in the top vintages like 2012, have an extra gear without the extra price. We loved the generous yet refined Pinot Character in this wine, the cherries are there in full force but there are some herb notes adding another dimension as well as surprising length on the palate, without the overtly cheap wood flavors that have infiltrated the genre. For $10 you'd be hard-pressed to find a better bottle of ...read more

The Royal Chenin Blanc Old Vine Steen 2013

Availability: In Stock
One of the greatest buys I have tasted this year is this under $10, 100% Chenin Blanc from the Western Cape. A super flowery-scented nose includes notions of ripe honeydew melons and pears. This medium-weight, fresh, fruity, crisp, dry, textbook Chenin Blanc will provide immense pleasure over the next 12 months. - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #208
